Euro Adoption in Bulgaria: Apple and App Developers Prepare for 2026 Transition
The European Commission will announce the official euro-Lew exchange rate on the last working day of 2025, marking a significant step towards Bulgaria's adoption of the euro on January 1, 2026. This move will impact pricing in the App Store and require adjustments from both Apple and app developers.
Starting January 1, 2026, app prices, In-App Purchases, and auto-renewable subscriptions in Bulgaria will be converted to euros using the statutory fixed conversion rate of 1.95583 Bulgarian lev = 1 euro, rounded down to supported euro price points. Developers must display both lev and euro prices for In-App Purchases within their apps from September 25, 2025, until the end of the transition period on August 8, 2026.
Apps using Bulgaria as the base storefront may see pricing updates in other storefronts to maintain equalization with the new euro price. Auto-renewable subscriptions will continue uninterrupted, with prices automatically updating to euros. Refunds issued after January 1, 2026, will be processed in euros, regardless of the original purchase date.
Apple will implement comprehensive changes to pricing, subscriptions, and financial reporting across all Bulgarian App Store transactions. Developers who selected the lev as their bank currency in App Store Connect will see automatic conversion to euros on December 1, 2025. Sales and Trends reports and monthly financial reports will receive significant updates, with earnings from sales after January 1, 2026, appearing in the EU report.
