Helmsman, a Singapore-based law firm that was established in 2019, has recently made a significant addition to its team. Teoh Su Yin has joined the firm as a director, specialising in the Corporate, Banking, and Finance Practice Group.

Teoh brings a wealth of experience to Helmsman, having worked in some of Singapore's leading law firms. Her expertise spans both contentious and non-contentious work, making her a versatile asset to the team.

Before joining Helmsman, Teoh served as a partner at a Big Four Singapore law firm. She also has extensive experience in the research and development sector, having worked as general counsel to two research institutes. This background has given her a unique insight into data management, cross-border data transfer risks, and regulatory compliance in the R&D sector.

Helmsman initially specialised in shipping and commodities law but has since expanded its services to include commercial disputes, employment law, corporate and banking law, and intellectual property. With Teoh's addition, the firm now boasts eight directors.

The legal services market in Singapore has seen increased activity in recent years, as the city-state positions itself as a regional financial hub. The addition of a director of Teoh's calibre is a strong indication of Helmsman's commitment to staying at the forefront of the industry.

Interestingly, Teoh's educational background is not limited to law. She also holds a master's degree in education with a focus on developmental psychology. This diverse educational background no doubt contributes to her ability to navigate complex legal and business scenarios.

With Teoh's appointment, Helmsman continues to grow and evolve, providing top-tier legal services to clients in Singapore and beyond.

  1. Teoh's extensive experience in the research and development sector, including her work as general counsel to two research institutes, will be valuable in Helmsman's corporate and banking law practice, particularly in areas such as data management, cross-border data transfer risks, and regulatory compliance.
  2. As a director at Helmsman, Teoh will not only contribute to the firm's Corporate, Banking, and Finance Practice Group but will also broaden the firm's capabilities in intellectual property law, given her diverse educational background.
  3. As the legal services market in Singapore becomes increasingly competitive, with the city-state positioning itself as a regional financial hub, Helmsman's commitment to maintaining a versatile team with expertise in various areas of law, such as banking law, intellectual property, and finance, will be crucial in staying ahead in the industry.
