**Headline:** Uttar Pradesh Farmers Encouraged to Enroll in Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana (PMFBY) for Kharif Season 2025
The Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, in partnership with state governments and insurance companies, has initiated the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana (PMFBY) to offer financial protection to farmers in Uttar Pradesh during the Kharif season of 2025. This scheme aims to support farmers by covering crop losses and ensuring financial stability during agricultural uncertainties.
**Eligibility Criteria**
The scheme is open to both loanee and non-loanee farmers. Non-loanee farmers must have ownership or possession of the land intended for insurance, and lease agreements are accepted if the land is rented or leased. Eligible farmers must cultivate notified crops during the Kharif season, which includes Cereal Crops, Pulses, Oilseeds, Paddy, Arhar, Soybean, Maize, Urad, Groundnut, Moong, Sesame, and Bajra. It is mandatory to register the crop through digital means such as the Digital Crop Survey App and obtain an AgriStack Farmer ID to ensure accuracy and prevent cancellation.
**Application Process**
The registration deadline is July 31, 2025. Farmers can apply through multiple channels: online via the official PMFBY website (pmfby.gov.in), mobile app (Official Crop Insurance App), WhatsApp Chatbot (7065514447), Helpline (14447), or offline at Common Service Centres (CSCs), designated bank branches, or Agriculture Department offices. At the time of registration, farmers must provide accurate information including bank details for premium payment and claims, land ownership proof, and crop details.
In case of crop damage, it must be reported within 72 hours for timely claim processing. The insurance premium varies by crop and area, with examples including Rs 457.50 per hectare for paddy and Rs 100 per hectare for ragi.
**Benefits**
The PMFBY acts as a safety shield, offering peace of mind and financial backup to help farmers recover and reinvest in the next season. Under the scheme, farmers pay a nominal premium for their crops. The premium for Kharif crops is 2%, for Rabi crops it is 1.5%, and for commercial/horticultural crops it is 5%. The remaining premium is subsidized by the government.
**Importance of Accurate Data Submission**
If any discrepancy arises between digital survey data and insurance applications, the insurance can be canceled and premiums forfeited, highlighting the importance of accurate data submission.
**Last Chance for Registration**
Farmers in other states should check their respective state government's website for exact details as July 31 is the last date in many regions. Farmers in Uttar Pradesh have the opportunity to protect their Kharif crops under PMFBY for the 2025 season.
Launched in 2016, the PMFBY is a crop insurance scheme by the Government of India, which strengthens the backbone of rural prosperity and supports the goal of a self-reliant Bharat. Loanee farmers are automatically enrolled unless they opt out.
