Friday, 1st September 2023 - A Blazing Electric Forklift Incident in Rohrbach
Rohrbach, here we go again! Early Thursday night into Friday, an electric forklift went up in flames in the courtyard of an industrial plant. But thanks to some quick thinking and a swift response, a disaster was averted.
The firefighters were called around 1:30 am, and they found that the plant employees had already managed to snuff out the blaze using a powder extinguisher. Still, the emergency services stayed on high alert, doing a thorough job with the hose reel while wearing respiratory gear. They used a thermal imaging camera to spot any lingering hotspots, especially near the electrical distribution.
At first, there was uncertainty regarding whether the forklift's batteries had been damaged, potentially causing some battery acid to leak. To err on the side of caution, the firefighters prevented any rainwater from entering the area by setting up a barrier with an oil-absorbing agent.
To ensure the battery wasn't a ticking time bomb, the fire department used a fire engine and a cable sling to drag the forklift away from the building, giving them access to the battery block.
