In a significant move, Dick's Sporting Goods has completed a $2.4 billion acquisition of Foot Locker, and both companies have announced new leadership roles as they aim to redefine the sports retail industry.

Ed Stack, the Executive Chairman of Dick's Sporting Goods, will be running Foot Locker. Brett O'Brien, the chief sports officer at PepsiCo, is joining Foot Locker as the chief marketing officer. Peter Scaturro, with 17 years of experience at Foot Locker, has been appointed as the CFO for Foot Locker North America.

Meanwhile, several executives are being moved from leadership roles within Dick's Sporting Goods to Foot Locker. Tony Aversa will be the general manager of Foot Locker and Kids Foot Locker North America. George Jenkins will lead store operations and customer experience for Foot Locker North America. Michael Keinath, who has a roughly five-year-long tenure at Dick's Sporting Goods, is taking on the role of the chief people officer for Foot Locker North America.

Ann Freeman, a 26-year Nike veteran, has been appointed as the president of Foot Locker North America. She left Nike in 2021 and has since served on the board of Allbirds. Freeman has experience in a series of different roles at Nike, including positions as vice president of global sales and vice president/general manager of North America.

Denise Karkos, the e-commerce chief at Dick's, will become the general manager of Champs Sports. At the same time, Dick's named seven other executives to leadership roles in North America at Foot Locker. Steve Miller, who spent five years at Dick's overseeing e-commerce, analytics, hardlines merchandising, and golf, is returning to take on the COO role at Foot Locker.

The combined companies believe that teaming up will give them stronger sway with brands. Nike is a key player in Foot Locker's fortunes, and many analysts attribute Foot Locker's recent weakness to a pullback from Nike and the activewear brand's own challenges with demand. However, the companies hope that their collaboration will help them navigate these challenges more effectively.

Dick's Sporting Goods plans to announce a president of international for Foot Locker but has not done so yet. The statement from Dick's CEO Lauren Hobart mentions the combined companies will create a global platform that will redefine the sports retail industry.

The combined companies aim to return Foot Locker to growth while continuing to fuel Dick's momentum. As they embark on this journey, these new leaders will play a crucial role in shaping the future of sports retail.
