For the next three years, both the French Way and the Schimmel Road will be restricted to a single lane of traffic.
Halle, Germany - A significant construction project is set to transform the city center as the historic city bath undergoes a major renovation. Scheduled to last approximately three years, from August 4, 2025, to July 31, 2028, the renovation project aims to preserve the Jugendstil architectural style of the city bath while maintaining it as a functioning swimming pool.
The renovation project is expected to impact traffic in Schimmelstraße, Franzosenweg, and the surrounding area. From August 5, 2025, a one-way traffic system will be implemented around the construction site. The exact date for the implementation of the one-way traffic system will be announced by the city at a later date.
The pedestrian bridge in Große Steinstraße leading to the entrance of Franzosenweg will be completed before the one-way traffic system comes into effect. Once completed, Franzosenweg can only be driven from Große Steinstraße towards Straße der Opfer des Faschismus, and Schimmelstraße can only be driven towards Große Steinstraße. No-parking zones will be established in Schimmelstraße, Franzosenweg, and at the entrance to the youth hostel in Große Steinstraße.
The city bath renovation project is one of the largest construction projects in Halle's city center and is being undertaken by the city-owned Bäder GmbH. Extensive funding for the renovation project is provided by the federal government, the state, and the city. The estimated cost of the renovation project is 27.3 million euros.
The building complex of Halle's city bath, in continuous use since 1916, will be preserved as a swimming pool and an architectural monument of bathing culture. The renovation project aims to preserve the historical integrity of the city bath, ensuring that it continues to be a cherished part of Halle's heritage for generations to come.
While the renovation project is underway, the sidewalk along the city bath in Schimmelstraße will be closed. Further information about traffic restrictions or changes in the affected areas will be provided by the city at a later date. The renovation of the Jugendstil bath is a significant construction endeavor in Halle's city center, and the city encourages residents and visitors to stay informed about the project's progress.
The one-way traffic system in Schimmelstraße and Franzosenweg, commencing from August 5, 2025, might cause disruptions for other modes of transportation. In contrast, the financial support for this project extends beyond the city, with contributions from the federal government, the state, and other industry sectors.
