Ford Unveils Plans for Off-Road Supercar to Challenge Dakar Rally

Ford is making waves in the automotive world with its ambitious plans for a new supercar. This vehicle, likely to be a part of the Mustang family, is set to be a more capable companion to the Mustang GTD, and could potentially shake up the off-road racing scene.

According to reports, the powertrain of this off-road beast could be based on the 5.2 L supercharged V8 found in the Mustang GTD. The supercar is expected to produce an impressive 1,000 horsepower, and will likely feature four-wheel drive to tackle the toughest terrains.

The anticipated price of this high-performance vehicle is over $300,000, placing it in a similar bracket to the Mustang GTD. Production of the off-roader is expected to be limited, with approximately 300 units, mirroring the production of the Mustang GTD.

In a move that could challenge the likes of Porsche 911 Dakar and Lamborghini Huracan Sterrato, Ford's off-road supercar is envisioned to have superior off-road capabilities. This is a reflection of Ford's CEO, Jim Farley's, strong desire to win the Dakar rally, suggesting a serious effort towards the vehicle's development.

Ford is not just focusing on racing, however. The company is also planning a return to Formula One as a technical partner to RedBull Powertrains, starting from next year. This will mark Ford's first direct involvement in F1 since 2004.

But it seems that Farley's heart lies more with off-road racing. In a recent statement, he expressed his ambition to win Dakar more than Formula One. This prioritization of off-road racing over Formula One could mean a significant focus on the development of the off-road supercar.

The vehicle is also likely to be digitally enabled, reflecting Ford's commitment to incorporating technology into its vehicles.

With its powerful engine, all-wheel drive capabilities, robust off-road styling, and lifted suspension, the Ford off-road supercar is shaping up to be a formidable competitor in the world of off-road racing. Stay tuned for more updates as this exciting project unfolds.
