Ford initiates a recall of over 694,000 Bronco Sport and Escape vehicles due to a faulty fuel injector issue
In a significant development, Ford Motor Company has announced a recall of over 694,000 2021-2024 Bronco Sport and 2020-2022 Escape SUVs equipped with 1.5-liter engines. The recall is prompted by a potential fuel leak risk due to a faulty fuel injector.
The affected vehicles may experience a crack in the fuel injector, leading to fuel or vapor migrating to ignition sources, increasing the risk of underhood fire. No injuries have been reported due to underhood fire incidents related to this condition.
Ford is currently offering an interim safety measure, an update to the engine control software, to detect a cracked fuel injector and invoke a strategy to disable the high-pressure fuel pump, derate engine power output, and reduce temperatures of possible ignition sources in the engine compartment. This update is free of charge and serves as a temporary solution until a permanent fix is developed.
The cost of the recall will be reflected in Ford's second-quarter 2025 results but will not impact its adjusted earnings before interest and taxes, adjusted earnings per share, or adjusted free cash flow.
Ford is working diligently to develop a permanent remedy for the fuel injector issue and will notify owners once it is available. The company has also plans to recall an additional population of vehicles produced with these injectors that were not previously recalled.
Owners can contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332 for more information. The recall affects Ford Pro models, as discussed by Ford Pro Executive Director of North American sales Matt Atkenson on 'The Claman Countdown.'
The recall expands and replaces recalls that Ford issued in November 2022 and March 2023. The recall was announced this week, and owners will receive initial letters in mid-August.
In addition, Nissan has issued a recall for certain 2019-2024 Kuga vehicles, in addition to the Ford Bronco Sport and Escape vehicles.
Ford's second-quarter results will be published after the bell on July 30. During the first quarter of the year, Ford generated nearly $40.7 billion in total revenue. The company's net income for the first three months of the year was $473 million.
Owners are advised to stay vigilant and follow the updates provided by Ford regarding the recall. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) safety hotline is available at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-888-275-9171) for further information.
- The recall's cost, which affects Ford's second-quarter 2025 results, will not impact its financial metrics such as adjusted earnings before interest and taxes, adjusted earnings per share, or adjusted free cash flow, highlighting the company's ability to manage such expenses in their financial industry scheme.
- Ford, in cooperation with Nissan, has issued recalls for their respective automotive models, including the 2021-2024 Bronco Sport and 2020-2022 Escape SUVs, as well as the 2019-2024 Kuga vehicles, signifying a broader concern related to manufacturing quality in the transportation industry.
- Ford's recall expands and replaces earlier recalls, underlining their continuous effort to address the fuel injector issue, an effort that is also reflected in their plans to recall additional vehicles, emphasizing their commitment to consumer safety and the industry's standards.
