Ford Initiates Recall of 500,000 Vehicles Due to Brake Fluid Leaks

Ford Motor Company has announced recalls for approximately 500,000 vehicles in the United States, involving two separate issues. The recalls, announced by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) on Thursday, do not appear to be related to the brake fluid leak issue or the faulty tail lights recall that affected vehicles outside the U.S.

The first recall is due to a brake fluid leak issue, which affects Ford's SUV Edge, model years 2015 to 2018, and Ford's mid-size luxury vehicle, Lincoln MKX, from 2016 to 2018. A ruptured hose in the brake system can cause the leak, potentially extending stopping distances and increasing the risk of a crash. The NHTSA estimates that 1% of the recalled vehicles have the defect.

Ford has not reported any accidents or injuries linked to this issue. However, a leak in the brake fluid might pose a potential risk, as it could affect the vehicle's ability to stop effectively.

The second recall involves over 213,000 vehicles due to faulty tail lights. While this recall does not seem to be related to the brake fluid leak issue, it does affect the Ford Focus and Lincoln Navigator models in Germany, in addition to the vehicles recalled in the U.S.

This is not the first vehicle recall by Ford, but it's worth noting that the number of recalled products in the U.S. has recently hit a three-year low. The recalls announced by Ford are separate from the one announced by the NHTSA on Thursday, involving vehicles other than those recalled due to the brake fluid leak issue or the faulty tail lights.

The airbag recall does not seem to be related to the brake fluid leak issue either. Ford is recalling over 100,900 vehicles due to the risk of a tear in the airbag when deployed. However, this recall does not necessarily indicate a higher risk of accidents or injuries compared to other recalls, as Ford has not reported any incidents linked to this issue.

Ford urges affected vehicle owners to follow the instructions provided by the company or the NHTSA regarding the recalls. It's essential for vehicle owners to ensure their vehicles are safe and well-maintained to minimize the risk of accidents and injuries.
