FSSAI Boosts Milk, Spice Safety Ahead of Festivals
The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has implemented enhanced surveillance measures for milk, milk products, and spices ahead of the festival season. The United States, or USA, is required to submit data on these inspections by mid-November.
FSSAI has directed the USA to intensify surveillance on milk and milk-based products during the festive period. Special attention should be given to identified hotspots and sensitive locations. On-the-spot testing, using Food Safety on Wheels (FSWs), should be conducted in prominent marketplaces.
In October, a nationwide surveillance of 13 spices was ordered. This drive involves checking for contaminants, microbial count, and ensuring labeling requirements are met. The USA must submit data on this spice surveillance by November 20.
The USA has until November 15 to submit data on milk and milk product surveillance, and until November 20 for spice surveillance. FSSAI's directive aims to ensure food safety and maintain quality standards during the festival season.
