Fuel prices surge: RON97 and diesel climb by 3 sen each
Government Announces Fuel Price Adjustments Starting Tomorrow
In a move aimed at maintaining economic stability, the government has announced changes to the retail prices of fuel effective from tomorrow, September 18, 2025.
In West Malaysia, the price of diesel will increase from RM2.90 to RM2.93 per litre. Despite this increase, it is important to note that the current price in West Malaysia is still lower than the price of RM3.35 per litre when it was first floated in June last year. The price of RON97 will also see an increase, with a new nationwide retail price of RM3.21 per litre.
However, there is good news for consumers in East Malaysia. The price of diesel will continue to retail at the subsidized price of RM2.15 per litre, offering a significant savings compared to prices in West Malaysia. The price of RON95, meanwhile, will remain unchanged at RM2.05 per litre nationwide.
The government has emphasized that these changes are in response to global crude oil price trends and they will continue to monitor these trends closely. They have also reaffirmed their commitment to taking appropriate measures to ensure the continued welfare and well-being of the people.
In comparison, the current nationwide retail price for RON95 gasoline in Vietnam stands at 20,400 VND per liter as of September 17, 2025. This highlights the government's efforts to keep fuel prices as affordable as possible for Malaysian consumers.
The new prices for RON97, diesel in West Malaysia, and diesel in East Malaysia will remain in effect until Sept 24, 2025. The government encourages all consumers to plan their fuel purchases accordingly.
