G-Tec Initiates Geophysical Surveys for ELWIND Offshore Wind Project
G-Tec has initiated geophysical surveys for the ELWIND offshore wind project, aiming to enhance understanding of the geological characteristics of the wind farm areas in Estonia and Latvia. The survey vessel Karina began investigating the seabed in early September, with the work expected to last two months.
The ELWIND project, set to develop offshore wind sites in Latvian and Estonian territories, will have a capacity of between 700 MW and 1 GW. It aims to establish the fourth electricity interconnection between the two countries. G-Tec won the contract worth over EUR 3.6 million in August, following a tender process.
Goya Bauwens, Project Manager at G-Tec, expressed pride in winning the tender. The company's scope includes developing a ground model for the project's design and installation requirements. This survey is crucial for understanding the geological characteristics of the wind farm areas, enabling the project to move forward with confidence.
The ELWIND offshore wind farm, with a capacity of up to 1 GW, is set to strengthen the electricity interconnection between Estonia and Latvia. G-Tec's geophysical surveys, expected to complete in November, will provide vital geological insights for the project's development.
