German Co-op Pioneer Dr. Joerg Brixner Passes Away at 91

Dr. Joerg Brixner, a prominent figure in Germany's cooperative agricultural and food industry, has passed away. The former president of the German Raiffeisen Association (DRV), Dr. Brixner, was 91.

Dr. Brixner's impact on the industry was profound. During his eight-year tenure at the DRV, he aligned the cooperative union with evolving European market conditions. His commitment to modernization, foresight, and sense of responsibility have left lasting traces, according to current DRV President Franz-Josef Holzenkamp.

Dr. Brixner's influence extended beyond his time at the DRV. He was active in the Raiffeisen organization for 37 years, serving as a board member at the Wuerttembergische Landwirtschaftliche Zentralgenossenschaft (WLZ) for many years. His leadership principles significantly shaped the further development of cooperatives in Germany.

One of Dr. Brixner's notable achievements was overseeing the integration of East German cooperatives into the Raiffeisen organization after reunification. His efforts ensured a smooth transition and strengthened the cooperative movement in Germany.

Dr. Brixner's contributions to the cooperative agricultural and food industry have been recognized with prestigious awards, including the Professor Niklas Medal in Gold and the German Raiffeisen Medal. The DRV has thanked its long-standing president for his lifetime of work and vowed to keep his memory alive. His legacy continues to inspire and guide the cooperative movement in Germany.
