Germany's Women in Leadership: Progress Slow Despite DUP UNTERNEHMER's Recognition

The proportion of women in the German Bundestag has dipped to 32.4% in the current term. Meanwhile, Germany lags in gender parity at the top, with only around a quarter of board seats in DAX companies held by women in 2024. Despite this, DUP UNTERNEHMER has recognised 50 influential women as role models, aiming to inspire change.

DUP UNTERNEHMER's list of 50 influential women spans business, science, media, politics, and society. However, it's unclear how many of these women currently sit on the executive boards of DAX companies. In contrast, countries like Scandinavia, Spain, and the UK boast higher women's quotas in politics.

At the 'Made for Germany' investment summit, only two women stood alongside 40 business leaders and the chancellor in the front row, highlighting the gender imbalance in leadership positions.

Germany has a long way to go to achieve gender parity in leadership roles. While DUP UNTERNEHMER's recognition of 50 influential women is a step in the right direction, concrete actions are needed to increase women's representation in top positions. This includes addressing the low percentage of women in the Bundestag and pushing for more women on the executive boards of DAX companies.
