Göttingen's Utility Company Modernizes Street Lighting and Infrastructure in Sustainability Push

EAM Netz GmbH has been busy modernizing street lighting and replacing light poles in Göttingen. The project, which began with a focus on sustainability, has since expanded to include a comprehensive sewer renovation and the modernization of gas and water pipelines. The city's utility company is also expanding its district heating network at Eichendorffplatz, with the aim of providing a sustainable and climate-friendly energy supply. The project is expected to be completed by Friday, October 10, 2025.

The initial phase of the project involved the replacement of several light poles and the modernization of street lighting. This was carried out with close coordination and cooperation among all parties involved, minimizing long-term costs and traffic disruptions. As the project progressed, it became clear that there were synergies with other municipal infrastructure projects. The expansion of the natural gas network at Eichendorffplatz provided an opportunity to renew water supply lines and upgrade the electricity network.

The gas and drinking water pipelines in the area were found to be in need of modernization. These were integrated into the ongoing project, which now aims to provide a sustainable and climate-friendly energy supply in Göttingen. The expansion of the renewable heat supply is a key component in achieving the city's climate plan.

The expanded project, now set to be completed by October 10, 2025, will not only modernize the street lighting and sewer system but also update the gas and drinking water pipelines. This comprehensive approach, made possible by synergies with other municipal infrastructure projects, is a significant step towards Göttingen's goal of a sustainable and climate-friendly energy supply.
