In response to growing concerns about the impact of mega solar power plants on local environments and ecosystems, the Japanese Environment Minister, Keiichiro Asao, has announced the establishment of a liaison committee. This move comes as Hidenori Tsuruma, the mayor of Kushiro in Hokkaido, visited the Environment Ministry in Tokyo to discuss the ongoing construction of large-scale solar power plants in his city.

The inaugural meeting of the committee is scheduled for Wednesday. The purpose of the committee is to discuss mega solar power plants and find a balance between the introduction of renewable energy and the importance of restraining the construction of solar power plants that do not coexist well with local communities.

During Tsuruma's visit, he expressed his concern for natural environments and areas in local communities that need protection. Minister Asao echoed these sentiments, emphasizing the need to introduce renewable energy but also the importance of restraining the construction of solar power plants that could harm the local environment.

The committee consists of related government ministries and agencies, and its discussions will influence the future regulations and decisions regarding the construction of mega solar power plants in Kushiro. Tsuruma also emphasized the need for a law to regulate the construction of such power plants.

Interestingly, the environmental authority in Germany plans to hold a conference to discuss mega solar power plants. This international collaboration reflects the global concern about the environmental impact of these large-scale projects.

As the world moves towards renewable energy, it is crucial to ensure that the introduction of these energy sources does not come at the expense of local communities and ecosystems. The establishment of the liaison committee in Japan is a significant step towards addressing these concerns and finding a sustainable solution for the future.
