Government Refines Home Energy Model for Net Zero Transition

The government has announced plans to refine the Home Energy Model, aligning it with net zero and housing goals. This update will coincide with reforms to the Future Homes Standard, ensuring a smooth transition for both homeowners and industry professionals.

The new Home Energy Model will be available alongside the current Standard Assessment Procedure for a limited period. This dual availability aims to provide a seamless shift towards the updated model.

The Energy Calculation as a Service platform will deliver a fast, cloud-based tool for the Home Energy Model by autumn 2025. This will enhance the efficiency and accessibility of energy calculations for homes.

In 2025, the integration of the Home Energy Model into Energy Performance Certificates will be explored. While no new name for the Energieausweis has been mentioned, updates will focus on tightened requirements for heating systems and maintaining the existing energy efficiency classification (A+ to H).

The government's commitment to refining the Home Energy Model, alongside the Future Homes Standard reforms, signals a significant step towards net zero and improved housing efficiency. The dual availability of models and the development of a cloud-based tool aim to ensure a smooth transition for all involved.
