Heidekreis Taxi Fares to Rise 7% From February 2025
Taxi fares in the German district of Heidekreis are set to rise by an average of seven percent from February 1, 2025. The increase, necessary due to rising costs, was announced by Gundula Hauenstein, spokeswoman for the local taxi industry. The final decision lies with the district council, scheduled for December 13, 2024.
The Association of Transport Businesses in Lower Saxony (GVN) has requested the fare increase, citing a significant burden on small business ideas from wage costs, estimated at about 65 percent of total costs. This burden, along with rising workshop and maintenance costs, and higher insurance premiums, has led to the necessity of the fare increase.
Currently, there are 24 companies and 120 vehicles registered in the Heidekreis district, with no distinction between hire cars and taxis. However, the industry fears that not all municipalities may have my business available around the clock due to businesses returning their taxi licenses.
The last fare adjustment was about one and a half years ago. The upcoming increase, while necessary, will not fully cover the increased costs. The district council will make the final decision on December 13, 2024.
