Hydrogen production commences at waste heat facility, overseen by Entega
In the heart of Germany, the city of Darmstadt is making strides in sustainable transportation and energy production. The city, in collaboration with HEAGmobilo, is set to open a new bus line 3A in the Ludwigshöhe district on August 18th. This new service will cater to the needs of the district's residents, enhancing the city's public transport network.
Meanwhile, Darmstadt is also making waves in the realm of renewable energy. In a significant move, the city's Waste-to-Energy Plant (MHKW) will soon produce hydrogen, marking a crucial step in the city's energy transition. The hydrogen will primarily be used to power hydrogen-fuelled buses, contributing to a cleaner and greener public transport system.
The green hydrogen production facility is set to start construction in October of this year, with plans to become operational by 2027. The project has garnered enthusiasm from Dr. Marie-Luise Wolff, CEO of ENTEGA, who sees her company as a pioneer in this energy transition.
FEST GmbH, a company specialising in building hydrogen production plants, has been contracted by ENTEGA AG to supply the technical equipment for the new facility. FEST GmbH's role includes delivering and installing key components such as the electrolyzer, compressor, and a trailer filling station for hydrogen. This infrastructure will enable the production and transport of green hydrogen, primarily for fuel cell buses.
The hydrogen produced will be compressed and filled into trailers on-site for distribution to various fueling locations, supporting around 40 hydrogen fuel cell buses in the region. FEST GmbH's contribution is essential for realising the green hydrogen production infrastructure that powers Darmstadt's sustainable public transport initiative.
The city of Darmstadt has also been extending support to its partner city, Bursa, during challenging times. A letter of thanks from Bursa acknowledges the city's offered support during forest fires, although the specific context remains undisclosed.
In the midst of these developments, the city of Darmstadt is also evaluating heavy rain from July 7th using various data. There were also incorrect rumours about the Seewiese flood retention basin in Darmstadt, which the city has since clarified.
The new bus line 3A and the green hydrogen production facility are significant steps towards Darmstadt's commitment to sustainability and clean transportation. These initiatives underscore the city's dedication to creating a greener and more sustainable future for its residents and partner cities alike.
