Hyundai, Kia Soar; Stellantis, Ford, Honda Face Mixed Q3 Sales
The automotive industry witnessed a mix of strong performances and challenges in the third quarter. Hyundai and Kia celebrated record results, while Stellantis ended a sales slump. Meanwhile, Ford and Honda faced struggles with certain models, and the final quarter of federal EV credits is expected to boost sales.
Hyundai and Kia both posted remarkable results, with a staggering 90% increase in Ioniq 5 sales compared to last year. Stellantis, after eight quarters of declining sales, saw a 6.2% rise in Q3, driven by improvements in Jeep and Chrysler Pacifica models. Toyota's U.S. sales jumped over 14% in September, thanks to strong performances from both Toyota and Lexus brands.
On the other hand, Nissan seems to be recovering with two consecutive quarters of steady improvement for its core brand. However, Honda's September sales were essentially flat, with the Integra and ZDX models underperforming. Ford sold zero Edges in Q3, continuing to clear out remaining inventory of the two-row midsize crossover.
Looking ahead, the final quarter of federal EV credits is expected to drive spiky sales numbers for both domestic and imported automakers. GM's EV sales saw significant bumps in Q3, with the Hummer EV and other models performing well. Enclave Advisors LLC's recent acquisitions indicate institutional investment activity in the industry.
