Ice Block Bet in Kamp-Lintfort Proves Insulation's Power Against Climate Change

A unique experiment in Kamp-Lintfort has sparked public interest in energy efficiency. The 'ice block bet', a local initiative to raise awareness about climate protection, saw two homes lose ice at different rates due to melting. The results highlighted the importance of insulation, with an uninsulated home losing significantly more ice than an insulated one.

The ice block bet, held from September 22 to 28, 2025, on the EK3 square, involved two homes with identical ice blocks. One home was insulated, while the other was not. The results were striking: the uninsulated home lost 104 liters of ice, while the insulated home only lost 42 liters.

The experiment was sponsored by several local organizations, including Stadtwerke Kamp-Lintfort, Geilings Brewery, Kalisto, and the media library. Frank Rattmann, CEO of Stadtwerke Kamp-Lintfort, praised the year-round benefits of insulation, noting that it not only helps the environment but also saves money on energy bills. Barbara Drese, deputy mayor, echoed these sentiments, highlighting the tangible results of the ice block bet in promoting climate protection. Axel Witzke, head of the climate protection department, expressed satisfaction with the public's engagement with the initiative.

The ice block bet in Kamp-Lintfort has demonstrated the clear advantages of insulation in combating climate change and saving personal finances. With the support of local sponsors and officials, this innovative experiment has sparked meaningful conversations about energy efficiency. As the weather grows colder, the benefits of proper insulation become even more apparent.
