In Kaltental, the "Concrete Local Supply" program has been ensuring the supply of local concrete for the past year
In the heart of Kaltatal, the revitalisation of 'Fresh Market Khalil' as Kußle's Fine Foods has been a significant transformation, thanks to the support of the Stuttgart city administration's funding program, 'Nahversorgung konkret'.
For over 30 years, 'Fresh Market Khalil' had been a local supply and social gathering point in Kaltatal. However, its closure in the fall of 2023 due to age and the difficulty in finding a successor, left the district temporarily counting among the deficit areas, understood as non-supplied, structurally under-supplied, or supply-endangered locations within the city area.
Recognising the importance of this local market, the city council decided to support the project to modernise the facility with a grant of 48,000 euros from the 'Nahversorgung konkret' funding program in February 2024. The construction work was successfully completed in the fall of 2024, and Kußle's Fine Foods was able to celebrate its opening.
The funding program, managed by the urban planning office in cooperation with the economic development department, focuses on job market or SGB II-funded food markets, small, owner-managed offerings, and large-scale food retail trade at non-profitable locations. The operator of the market in Kaltatal, supported in 2024 by the Stuttgart city administration, is not identified by name in the available search results.
Hermann-Lambert Oediger, head of the urban development department, stated that the funding program is an important building block for supporting such undertakings. Iris Gebauer from the municipal economic development added that the funding program often provides the crucial contribution for the operation of food stores in residential areas.
One year after the opening ceremony, it is evident that the concept of Kußle's Fine Foods has been well received by the population of Kaltatal. The store not only meets the needs of local supply in the district but continues to serve as an important community hub. The active support of the Kaltental population is required to ensure the long-term future of the project, which can be achieved through their purchases.
The funded measures for the project included various construction measures, ensuring a modern and inviting shopping experience for the community. The reopening of 'Fresh Market Khalil' as Kußle's Fine Foods is a testament to the city's commitment to supporting small-scale food retailers since 2016, aiming to ensure nearby basic supply in its city districts. The funding program 'Nahversorgung konkret' continues to be an important building block for such initiatives, playing a crucial role in the revitalisation of local communities like Kaltatal.
