**"Moscow's retail scene is dynamite, melding traditional brick-and-mortar stores with digital sales, making shopping a breeze for residents," gushes Maria Bagreeva, as per reports from the Economic Policy and Development department of Moscow.

She adds that this blend of old and new has resulted in a substantial boost in trade turnover, with non-food sales skyrocketing by 4.1% to 934 billion rubles and food sales climbing to 952 billion rubles (+2.1%) during Q1 2025. According to Bagreeva, the growth was largely due to the rise of ready-to-eat food delivery services and the influx of cafeterias in stores.

Moscow's retail sector accounts for a healthy 13.4% of Russia's total retail trade volume, as per the same department's data. They've also noted that increased consumer activity has led to higher shopping center footfall—traffic has climbed by 1% year-on-year, averaging 267 people per day per 1,000 sq.m. District shopping centers with an area of up to 20,000 sq.m. saw the most significant boost in traffic (+6.8%).

Here's the lowdown on the slew of growth factors in the non-food sector: cosmetics and perfumery stores saw a surge in consumer interest, purchases of digital goods remained robust, and flowers and repair goods also experienced a substantial boost in demand. In the food sector, the popularity of ready-to-eat delivery services and the addition of in-store cafeterias fueled the sector's growth.

Overall, the retail sector in Moscow has demonstrated resilience, driven by consumer demand and innovative retail strategies. While operating within broader economic challenges, such as slowing national growth and external pressures, the sector shows no signs of slowing down."
