Increased road safety: city constructs Mittelinsel in Gypsbergstraße
Starting Monday, June 2nd, the construction of a new median island will commence on Gypsbergstraße in Mockau-Nord to enhance traffic safety and pedestrian crossings. This project aims to divide the roadway at Essener Straße, resulting in a shorter crossing distance and increased safety for all road users.
The Robert-Blum School and Grundschule Tauchaer Straße, situated close to the construction site, have long sought a solution for safely crossing Gypsbergstraße near the S-Bahn halt during peak hours. A zebra crossing was not legally feasible, leading to the new traffic island provision as a structural solution.
The construction period includes several stages, with both directions of Gypsbergstraße accessible until June 6th. From June 10th to 27th, the street will be partially closed, allowing only one-way traffic towards the city center. Outbound traffic will be directed via Essener Straße/Maximilianallee and Messe-Allee as detour routes.
Trucks and bus line 85 cannot pass through the construction zone during the partial closure, requiring them to use the detour via Essener Straße/Maximilianallee and Messe-Allee in both directions. The estimated project cost is around 60,000 euros, with an expected completion by the end of the month.
