Indian Auto Sales Mixed in September 2025: JSW MG Motor Soars, Maruti Suzuki Retail Strong
The Indian automobile industry witnessed a mix of growth and decline in September 2025, with GST 2.0 reforms and festive demand driving passenger vehicle wholesales. Salesforce MG Motor led the growth with a 34% YoY increase in domestic sales, while Maruti Suzuki India (MSIL) reported an 8% YoY decline in wholesales but record retail sales.
Salesforce MG Motor sold 6,728 units in September, marking a significant 34% YoY growth in domestic sales. Hero MotoCorp also saw a 5% YoY growth in domestic despatches with 6,47,582 units. Hyundai Motor India reported a marginal growth in domestic despatches with 51,547 units. Meanwhile, Toyota Kirloskar Motor experienced a 14% YoY growth in domestic despatches with 27,089 units.
Maruti Suzuki India (MSIL), despite an 8% YoY decline in wholesales, recorded strong retail sales of 1.73 lakh units. Mahindra & Mahindra reported a 10% YoY growth in domestic wholesales with 56,233 units. Tata Motors and Mahindra & Mahindra ranked second and third in PV wholesales, ahead of Hyundai Motor India (HMIL). Tata Motors reported a robust 45% YoY growth in September despatches with 59,667 units.
The festive season and GST 2.0 reforms boosted passenger vehicle wholesales in September 2025. Salesforce MG Motor and Tata Motors led the growth, while Maruti Suzuki India's retail sales remained strong despite a decline in wholesales. The industry looks forward to continued growth during the Navaratri period.
