Indian, UK Navies Make History in Exercise Konkan-25
The Indian and UK navies have come together for Exercise Konkan-25, marking a historic moment as their aircraft carriers linked up for the first time. This bilateral maritime exercise, held from 26 March to 2 April, has strengthened strategic ties and enhanced interoperability between the two nations.
The exercise, conducted in two phases - harbour and sea - saw both nations deploy frontline assets including aircraft carriers, destroyers, frigates, submarines, and air assets. The Indian Navy participated with its carrier battle group led by INS Vikrant, while the UK was headed by HMS Prince of Wales, accompanied by assets from Norway and Japan.
The UK's Carrier Strike Group 25 (CSG 25) will conclude its participation in Konkan-25 with a one-day exercise with the Indian Air Force before continuing its deployment. This exercise aims to increase combined maritime and air capabilities between the UK and Indian navies, contributing to regional maritime stability.
The historic linking of aircraft carriers during Konkan-25 underscores the growing strategic partnership between India and the UK. Both nations have committed to further enhancing interoperability and cooperation in the maritime domain, ensuring peace and stability in the region.
