Industrials call for harmonious industrial policy aligned with climate goals at Clean Industrial Agreement gathering

Europe is gearing up for a greener future with its industrial policies, and the home appliance sector is right in the thick of it. Here's how the continent's largest home appliance manufacturer, Beko, is making waves in this exciting new landscape:

Going Green, Staying Competitive

At a major industry event, Beko highlighted the urgent need for a strong, unified European industrial policy. Their focus? Decarbonization, energy efficiency, and innovation - key components that will keep industries competitive on the global stage.

A Sustainable Legacy

Beko built its success on principles like energy efficiency, sustainability, and responsible innovation. Now, it's advocating for an industrial strategy that moves beyond regulations and invests meaningfully in clean technology, resilient supply chains, and innovative manufacturing.

Hakan Bulgurlu, CEO of Beko and President of APPLiA, emphasized the importance of a bold European industrial strategy and regulatory framework that allows companies to thrive. "Home appliances are a critical industry," he said. "Not only a major employer and driver of innovation, but also a key catalyst for supply chain resilience and a direct contributor to energy efficiency in every EU household." He called on the European Commission to recognize the home appliances sector's role as a strategic enabler of Europe's climate and industrial ambitions.

Fueling the Clean Energy Transition

Energy efficiency, often called the "first fuel" in the clean energy transition, is a priority for Beko. Over 70% of its units produced are energy-efficient, contributing significantly to the company's revenue.

Bulgurlu expressed that a balanced approach between profit and responsibility makes good business sense. "We have already demonstrated leadership in sustainable innovation with our products that save energy, reduce waste, and align with the Green Deal," he said. However, he added, "We cannot succeed alone." Beko urges Europe to shift from reactive policies to proactive investment in its industrial sector to secure its competitive future.

Beko's Romanian Roots

As one of the world's largest manufacturers, Beko operates two large home appliance factories in Romania - the Găes̹ti factory and the Ulmi washing machine factory, the first Industry 4.0 plant in the country. Its Ulmi production unit has been awarded the Sustainability Lighthouse status by the World Economic Forum, recognizing its sustainability achievements. Beko Romania exports 84% of its total production to over 80 countries, making "Made in Romania" products known worldwide.

Beko Europe: Making a Difference

Beko Europe is a leading home appliance company dedicated to improving consumers' lives. As part of Beko, it offers a diverse range of innovative and sustainable products and solutions. Building on its parent company's 70-year legacy of innovation, Beko Europe promotes sustainability in the home and is committed to exceeding consumer expectations across multiple product segments.
