The urban community of Grand Reims, located in the Champagne region of France, has taken a significant step towards sustainable transport with the selection of IVECO BUS for the development of its electric car system. Giorgio Zino, Head of IVECO BUS Europe Commercial Operations, expressed delight with the choice of Grand Reims, expressing confidence in the potential of the project. The modernization of the transport network will involve the creation of two car rapid transit (BRT) lines. Line 1 will connect the future NEOMA Business School / ESAD campus in the emerging Port Colbert district and the University of Reims Champagne Ardenne - Moulin de la Housse, passing through the Reims central station and the "les Sacres" lane. Line 2 will connect the Reims central station and the town of Cormontreuil, passing through the Châtillons district. To facilitate the operation of these electric BRT cars, Mobility, the operator responsible for the Reims car network, will deploy a charging infrastructure with 32 charging points. This infrastructure will be designed to support network changes over time, ensuring its longevity and adaptability. The charging schedule for the electric vehicles will be calculated based on service timetables, vehicle characteristics, weather conditions, and electricity tariffs. Careful planning is required for the daily charging of several dozen electric cars to smooth out consumption peaks and ensure each car is adequately charged. The deployment of the charging infrastructure and Cway control software will allow the network to fully exploit its new GX 437 ELEC LINIUM electric cars. The Cway software, which will also be used by Mobility, will enable the network operator to control the equipment and optimize car charging. The charging infrastructure and the Cway control software will enable the operator to manage the load effectively and ensure the network functions properly, achieving energy savings. The cars will be put into operation on the "les Sacres" Lane in the autumn of 2025. The 20 electric BRT cars have a large passenger capacity and can accommodate up to 142 people. They will feature a modern interior that leaves plenty of room for natural light. For safety and visibility, the vehicles will be equipped with a camera rearview system replacing the traditional exterior mirrors. Mobility teams will collaborate with Grand Reims services and the network operator to ensure safety and continuity of the transport service during the works. IVECO BUS will deliver 20 electric articulated GX 437 ELEC LINIUM BRT cars with an option for nine additional units. The operator responsible for the installation of the charging station and the deployment of the Cway monitoring and intelligent charging current software was not explicitly named in the provided search results. However, it is clear that this project marks a significant step towards a more sustainable and modern car network for the city of Reims.
