Jason Kidd Steps into Soccer Ownership with Everton FC

Jason Kidd, coach of the NBA's Dallas Mavericks, acquires a minority stake in English soccer club Everton.

Jumping into the realm of business, basketball star and current Mavericks coach, Jason Kidd, has landed a spot as a minority owner in the esteemed English soccer team, Everton FC.

With a stellar career that earned him the All Star title 10 times, and a championship win with the Dallas Mavericks in 2011, Kidd is no stranger to success. His resume also boasts two Olympic gold medals from the 2000 and 2008 games.

Kidd has teamed up with U.S.-based ownership group Roundhouse Capital Holdings, part of the Friedkin Group, which took control of Everton FC at the end of last year. In a statement after securing his investment, Kidd expressed his delight, saying, "I'm thrilled to be joining Everton's ownership at such a crucial juncture, with a stunning new stadium on the horizon and a promising future, it's an exciting time to hop aboard."

Everton currently ranks 13th in the Premier League table, managing to hold its ground in the top division despite a challenging beginning to the season. Kidd's entry into the football club couldn't be more perfect, as the team prepares to move into its brand-new 52,888-seat stadium for next season, marking an exciting new chapter in its growth.

High-profile U.S. Sports Stars in Soccer Ownership

Kidd isn't the first American sports celebrity to jump on the soccer team ownership bandwagon. Other big names from the NBA and media have also taken their shot, and Kidd now joins this exclusive club by partnering with Everton.

Basketball icon LeBron James, for instance, is a part-owner of Liverpool FC - a fierce rival of Kidd's Everton in the city of Liverpool. Future Hall of Famer Tom Brady, the NFL legend, owns a substantial 3.3% share of Birmingham City, which recently claimed the title in their division and will advance to the second tier next season.

Two golf pros on the PGA Tour, Justin Thomas and Jordan Spieth, have invested in Championship team Leeds United, who are preparing for promotion to the Premier League.

Interestingly, other less-traditional sports stars and celebrities, such as Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney, are also part of soccer team ownership. Despite not being typical sports stars, they have made their mark as media personalities with ownership in a soccer team. However, detailed information on NFL or MLB stars investing in soccer teams remains scarce compared to information available on NBA and media personalities.
