Kuwait's Largest Wastewater Plant Coming Soon With China's Help
Kuwait is set to build its largest wastewater treatment facility, the North Kabd plant, with China. The contract is expected to be signed in mid-October. The value of the project and the Chinese state-owned company involved have not been disclosed.
The North Kabd project is part of Kuwait's broader development plans with Chinese support. It includes projects like the Mubarak Al-Kabeer Port, power and water plants, renewable energy and waste recycling initiatives, and new residential areas. In 2023, Kuwait formally informed Beijing about starting contracting procedures for two renewable energy projects with a Chinese state-owned firm.
The North Kabd plant will have a capacity to treat up to 1 million cubic meters of wastewater per day using advanced technologies. This is significant as Kuwait currently faces challenges in reusing treated wastewater, with much of it being discharged into the sea due to storage limitations and infrastructure issues.
The North Kabd plant, with its advanced treatment capacity, is expected to help Kuwait manage its wastewater more effectively. The project is part of Kuwait's ongoing collaboration with China in various development sectors. The details of the contract, including the value and the specific Chinese state-owned company involved, remain to be officially disclosed.
