New Triumph Thruxton 400: A Premium Cafe Racer with Retro-Modern Styling
Triumph Motorcycles India has launched a new model, the Thruxton 400, a premium 398cc cafe racer that combines retro-modern styling with sporty performance features.
The Thruxton 400 is powered by a 398cc liquid-cooled single-cylinder engine, tuned for around 41 to 42 bhp at 9,000 rpm and torque of about 37.5 Nm at 7,500 rpm. This engine features a revised camshaft for a livelier, high-rev character compared to the Speed 400 model in the lineup.
Key specifications and features of the Thruxton 400 include upside-down (USD) front forks with around 135 mm travel, preload-adjustable rear monoshock with approximately 130 mm travel, a shorter wheelbase of 1,376 mm, 17-inch alloy wheels with dual-channel ABS brakes, and a full LED lighting system.
The Thruxton 400 offers classic cafe racer aesthetics with a semi-faired front, a teardrop-shaped fuel tank, a slim tail section, and a minimalist rear light. The bike features clip-on handlebars and rear-set footpegs for a more aggressive, forward-leaning sport posture.
Performance-wise, the Thruxton 400 boasts a 6-speed gearbox with a slipper clutch for smoother downshifts, a top speed claimed to be around 161 km/h, and a 0-100 km/h time of approximately 6.7 seconds. The power delivery is tuned for spirited riding, with occasional exhaust "pop and bang" sounds on deceleration.
The Thruxton 400 is priced at ₹2.74 lakh (ex-showroom), making it more expensive than the Scrambler 400 X. It is positioned above the Scrambler X 400 in terms of premium cafe racer styling and sporty performance.
In comparison to other models in Triumph’s lineup, the Thruxton 400 offers more sophisticated chassis components like USD forks and a sportier ergonomics setup for committed riding compared to the more upright cruiser-style seating on other 400cc Triumph models.
