Law firm Paul Hastings bolsters tax expertise in New York
Paul Hastings Strengthens Global Tax Practice with the Addition of Sherry Xie
Paul Hastings, a leading global law firm, announced the hire of Sherry Xie as a partner in its Tax practice on July 21, 2025. Xie joins the firm from Kirkland & Ellis and brings over a decade of experience in tax matters to enhance and strengthen Paul Hastings' global tax practice.
Xie has advised on a broad range of tax matters related to mergers, acquisitions, reorganizations, and other business transactions for both U.S. and international clients. Her clientele includes leading public corporations and private equity firms across industries such as consumer products, technology, healthcare, manufacturing, and financial services. Notably, she has advised on significant deals like NortonLifeLock’s $25 billion merger with Avast and Polestar Performance’s $20 billion business combination with Gores Guggenheim Inc.
Xie's addition is part of a strategic effort by Paul Hastings to build a global tax platform with greater scale and talent, responding to record demand. She is the fourth partner to join their tax team in the past year from major firms, reinforcing critical bench strength in New York.
Xie will be based in Paul Hastings' New York office, supporting the firm's M&A, private equity, and other complex transactional work. The firm chair, Frank Lopez, commented that Xie adds premier talent and critical bench strength in New York to their existing global tax capabilities.
Before joining Paul Hastings, Xie spent four years at Kirkland & Ellis. Prior to that, she spent five years as a tax associate at Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom. Xie's previous hires include Daniel Nicholas from Weil Gotshal & Manges, Christopher Mangin from Vinson & Elkins, and Alex Farr from McDermott Will & Emery.
Xie acts for private equity firms and public corporations, as well as their portfolio companies. Her sectors of expertise include consumer products, health care, manufacturing, technology, and financial services. Some of her notable clients include ADTRAN Holdings, Cyxtera Technologies, Better Health Group, Gen Digital, and Focus Impact.
The hires were made for Paul Hastings' Washington, DC office and Dallas office respectively. The firm's strategic priority is to continue to build a destination global tax platform with the scale and talent to meet their record demand from their M&A, PE, and other transactional practices.
