Less quantities of meat, dairy, and seafood are being imported into Buryatia
In the first eight months of 2025, the "Zaundinsky" Station of the Vostosibirskaya Railway witnessed an increased focus on inspections of imported goods under federal state veterinary oversight. Officially, these inspections were aimed at ensuring the quality and safety of the imported products.
State inspectors conducted thorough examinations of various goods, including 80 tons of horse meat from Mongolia and 54 tons of crab sticks and meat from China. The imported horse meat and crab products are being tested in the subordinate laboratories of Rosselkhoznadzor in both Irkutsk and Moscow.
The inspections at the "Zaundinsky" Station were part of a larger initiative, as officials from the Irkutsk and Buryatia regional office of Rosselkhoznadzor supervised a total of 2446 cargo batches. These inspections took place in temporary storage warehouses in the permanent zones of customs control, with the total weight of these cargoes exceeding 72,000 tons.
The imported goods consisted of various categories, including 1213 tons of meat products, 588 tons of fish products, 748 tons of dairy products, and a significant 69,100 tons of feed for livestock and poultry.
While the import of feed saw a 1.1% increase compared to the same period last year, there were decreases in the import of other products. The import of fish products decreased by 1.7%, meat products by 2.8%, and dairy products by 4%.
These findings suggest a mixed picture for the import trends in the region. While the demand for feed remains steady, there seems to be a decline in the import of other food products. The results of the quality and safety tests on the imported goods will provide further insights into the state of these imports.
These inspections are crucial, as they aim to maintain the safety and quality of the imported goods, thereby protecting the health of consumers and ensuring the continued growth of the region's economy.
