Liga and RFEF Officially Reject Granting Playing Permits for FC Barcelona's Star Players

La Liga and the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) have put out a joint announcement stating that FC Barcelona won't be given the play licenses for their players Dani Olmo and Pau Victor.

The duo, who were managed by Hansi Flick, were added as temporary signings during the summer, valid until December 31.

As the deadline approached, a judge denied permission for the rest of the 2024/2025 season, and after that, La Liga removed Olmo and Pau Victor from the FC Barcelona team's official website.

Barca then had the funds to get back to the 1:1 rule under Financial Fair Play, thanks to the $103 million (€100 million) gain from selling VIP boxes in the renovation of the Spotify Camp Nou.

However, in the lead-up to a Coppa del Rey clash against Barbastro, La Liga and RFEF issued a statement that even after this, Olmo and Pau Victor won't be allowed to play for their team.

"The Monitoring Committee of the RFEF-La Liga Coordination Agreement held a meeting to discuss the request for prior approval and processing of the federation licenses for the players Mr. Daniel Olmo Carvajal and Mr. Pau Victor Delgado, submitted by FC Barcelona," the statement began.

"After FCB adhered to La Liga's economic control requirements on January 3, 2025, and the club had completed the relevant documentation, the La Liga Budget Validation Body decided to raise FC Barcelona's Sports Squad's Cost Limit from the aforementioned date."

"Given that FC Barcelona had requested licenses for the aforementioned players and, after analyzing the appliciable regulations, the Monitoring Committee decided not to grant the required prior approval or the definitive license for the players Mr. Daniel Olmo Carvajal and Mr. Pau Victor Delgado, as per the literal interpretation of articles 130.2 and 141.5 of the General Regulations of the RFEF," it added.

Mundo Deportivo goes on to say that Barca will now apply for a precautionary measure from the Administrative Court of Sport (CSD) in an attempt to resolve the situation. Or else, they might opt for regular court proceedings.

The joint announcement from La Liga and the RFEF also indicated that Olmo and Pau Victor won't be eligible to participate in Barça's Coppa del Rey match against Barbastro. Despite adhering to La Liga's economic control requirements and receiving approval to increase their sports squad's cost limit, the Monitoring Committee of the RFEF-La Liga Coordination Agreement declined to grant the necessary licenses for Dani Olmo and Pau Victor, citing applicable regulations. After this decision, FC Barcelona is considering seeking a precautionary measure from the Administrative Court of Sport (CSD) to resolve the situation.
