Exclusive Release: Volkswagen unveils exclusive ID 3 model at £48,000, limited to production of 1,990 units

Limited-edition Volkswagen ID 3 priced at £48,000, only 1990 units available.

The German automaker, Volkswagen, has introduced a new limited-edition model, the ID.3 GTX Fire+Ice, as part of its strategy to increase the appeal of its electric vehicles. This special edition is a tribute to the iconic 1990s Golf Fire+Ice special edition, featuring key design elements and inspirations from the original, reimagined for the modern electric vehicle era.

The ID.3 GTX Fire+Ice boasts an exclusive ultra-violet metallic paint, reminiscent of the Golf’s distinctive purple hue, and geometric F+I (Fire+Ice) patterns on the C-pillar. The design of this limited-edition model was collaborated on with BOGNER FIRE+ICE, a German sportswear company, to tie automotive and luxury sports fashion heritage together.

Key features of the ID.3 GTX Fire+Ice include two electric motor options producing 210 kW (286 PS) or 240 kW (326 PS), ensuring sporty performance consistent with the GTX line. The exterior showcases 20-inch diamond-turned Locarno alloy wheels with blue-purple accents, anodised red roof strips, tinted LED rear lights exclusive to this edition, and puddle lights on door mirrors projecting “fire” on the passenger side and “ice” on the driver’s side.

Inside, the ID.3 GTX Fire+Ice features a fire and ice coloration theme, with the driver’s side and rear seat stitched in Flaming Red, while the passenger side features Ice Blue accents. Several cabin materials and colours were inspired by Bogner’s Fire+Ice clothing collections. The original Fire+Ice logo can be found on the roof spoiler, and the special seats are quilted in a design similar to Bogner’s Fire+Ice down jackets.

Produced in a strictly limited run of 1,990 units, the ID.3 GTX Fire+Ice pays homage to the original Golf Fire and Ice release year of 1990. Pricing starts around €56,020 in Germany and about £48,360 in the UK.

The ID.3 GTX Fire+Ice references the classic Golf Fire+Ice by maintaining the thematic contrast between elements symbolizing fire and ice, such as the colour split, logos, and design accents, while embracing modern electric technology and premium sportiness in line with the GTX branding. This edition honors the iconic 1990s model’s cult status and emotional appeal among Volkswagen fans by reinterpreting its style cues and spirit for the electric age.

Thus, the Fire+Ice name and concept re-emerge in the ID.3 GTX as a blend of heritage, sporty performance, and exclusive design details, bridging Volkswagen’s past with its electric future.
