London Luton Airport Sees Record Growth, Expansion Approved
London Luton Airport has seen significant growth in 2024, with an increase in both employees and revenue. The airport has also received approval for expansion plans, aiming to accommodate more passengers in the coming years.
The airport's workforce has expanded, with the average number of employees rising from 778 to 908. This growth comes alongside a £7.9m increase in revenue, reaching £304.4m in the year. The expansion plans, approved by Luton Borough Council and the government, aim to handle 32 million passengers annually by 2043.
The airport's success has also attracted new businesses. Jet2 chose London Luton as its latest base in 2024. Meanwhile, Heathrow's management proposed a bidding process for its third runway expansion. Elsewhere, Gatwick Airport's second runway plan, backed by Chancellor Rachel Reeves, will enable about 100,000 more flights a year.
London Luton Airport's expansion plans, including a new Universal theme park near Bedford, are set to boost the local economy. The airport's pre-tax profit more than doubled in 2024 to £89.8m, reflecting its strong performance and growth potential.
