Mahindra unveils Vision S and Vision X design concepts, developed on the NU_IQ platform
Mahindra, the Indian automaker, has unveiled two new SUV concepts, the Vision S and Vision X, at its Freedom NU event. These prototypes are based on Mahindra's NU_IQ monocoque platform, designed to accommodate vehicles between 3,990mm to 4,320mm in length with a wheelbase of 2,665mm.
Mahindra Vision S
The Vision S showcases a rugged, boxy silhouette with vertical stacked LED DRLs, L-shaped headlamps, and pixel-themed fog lamps. A central radar suggests the inclusion of Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS). The Vision S is likely to join the Scorpio family, representing a new rugged SUV offering.
Built on the NU_IQ platform, the Vision S supports petrol, diesel, hybrid, and electric powertrains. However, details on exact engine options remain unrevealed. The SUV exhibits strong off-road cues and modern safety/assist tech inferred by its radar and lighting design.
Mahindra Vision X
The Vision X presents a sporty, crossover-like compact SUV with a coupe-like roofline and sharp design elements. Notable features include an X-shaped multi-slat grille, sleek LED DRLs, aerodynamic dual-tone 19-inch alloy wheels, and a rear spoiler similar to the Mahindra BE 6 EV.
The interior of the Vision X boasts a futuristic integrated curved display combining the digital driver cluster and infotainment screen, a two-spoke steering wheel, a three-tone dashboard, rectangular AC vents, and a large central console with armrests and cup holders.
Like the Vision S, the Vision X is also based on the NU_IQ platform and is expected to be under 4 meters in length, positioning it advantageously in the compact SUV segment. It supports internal combustion engines (ICE), hybrids, and all-electric (EV) powertrains, but technical specifics are not yet disclosed.
The Vision X is expected to join the XUV family, positioned above the current XUV 3XO model and likely competing with Tata Nexon, Kia Sonet, Hyundai Venue, and others. The Vision X could preview a new family SUV that sits above the XUV 3XO.
Common Platform & Technology
The NU_IQ platform is a modular, monocoque chassis capable of accommodating multiple powertrains (petrol, diesel, hybrid, EV) and vehicle sizes in the sub-4.3-meter to nearly 4.3-meter range. The vehicles are designed for both left-hand and right-hand drive markets, aiming for sales in domestic and export markets.
Summary
In essence, the Vision S previews a rugged SUV continuation of the Scorpio lineage, while the Vision X signals a youthful, crossover-style compact SUV that will likely succeed or enhance Mahindra’s XUV 3XO with modern design and powertrain flexibility. Both concepts reflect Mahindra’s strategy of expanding EV and hybrid options on a versatile modular platform.
