Weekend Woes: Prepare for Munich's S-Bahn Shutdown (Revised)

Main line of Munich's S-Bahn service halted once more - Main line of Munich's S-Bahn transit system undergoes another shutdown.

Here's a heads up! This weekend, Munich's reliable S-Bahn trunk line is shutting down once more. Bundled construction works on tracks, switches, and stations have necessitated "notable timetable adjustments and substitute services" from Friday to Monday, as per Deutsche Bahn's announcement. Meanwhile, progress on Laim's second trunk line remains brisk.

This closure covers the segment between Pasing, Leuchtenbergring, and Giesing. From Friday evening to Monday morning, no trains will chug over the S-Bahn tracks in this section. Consequently, numerous lines will be rerouted or start and end earlier. Some lines will completely bypass the affected section. Every ten minutes, replacement buses will shuttle passengers between Pasing and the main station along the trunk line.

Opt for alternative transport like the U-Bahn, bus, or regional trains during this period. For instance, passengers can ditch the intermediate stops and jet between the main station and Pasing on the S6 and regional trains. Bus 130 also connects Pasing with the Westendstraße. The U4 will stretch beyond Theresienwiese to Westendstraße, offering additional travel choices from Heimeranplatz. Passengers traveling in eastern areas of the trunk line between the main station and Ostbahnhof can utilize the largely parallel U5 as an alternative.

Information pillars will be set up at stations with substitute traffic, displaying changes in the line network and information about replacement buses. Additional pillars will guide passengers from the stations to corresponding bus stops. QR codes will be at hand to help passengers locate replacement buses.

Remember, the Stammstrecke between Pasing and Leuchtenbergring/Giesing will be out of commission from Friday, May 9, at 10:20 PM to Monday, May 12, at 4:40 AM. Plan your commute wisely by checking the MVG website for the latest updates and using a journey planner app to get real-time information regarding service disruptions and alternative routes.

Additional Insights (Enrichment Data):

  • The S1 line will only operate between Freising/Flughafen and the main station, with some trains starting and ending in Moosach, skipping stops between Moosach and the main station.
  • The S2 line, in the east, will run between Erding and Leuchtenbergring, while in the west, it will operate every half hour between Petershausen and Heimeranplatz (U4/U5), bypassing stops between Obermenzing and Heimeranplatz.
  • The S3 line is limited to running between Mammendorf and Pasing, and between Giesing (U2) and Holzkirchen.
  • The S7 line is the only line not affected by the closure as it does not run through the main line.
  • Passengers can opt for the U-Bahn network for some routes, especially those not affected by the S-Bahn disruptions, or use enhanced bus services for shorter distances where S-Bahn lines are not operational.
  • Check the MVG website for the latest information on bus and tram services, as they may offer more detailed updates on alternative routes and replacement services.
