Major infrastructure development underway on the path to Lemgoer
The city of Detmold is set to undertake a significant infrastructure project, with the renovation of Lemgoer Straße between Nordring and Feldstraße commencing on May 21, 2025. This ambitious project, one of the largest in recent years, aims to modernise and enhance the street space, making it greener, more attractive, and more accessible.
The renovation will be divided into two construction phases. During the first phase, which is expected to last approximately one and a half years, the focus will be on the area between the intersection of Nordring and the intersection area of Georgstraße/Sylbeckestraße. Outbound traffic will be diverted to the right at the Sylbeckestraße intersection and routed via Siegfriedstraße to the Nordring.
The renovation project will address the outdated drainage system, with part of the existing combined sewer being separated into a stormwater and a wastewater sewer. This modernisation will ensure the system meets today's requirements. The street will also be adapted to modern requirements, with sidewalks being widened and bicycle traffic having more space.
In the second construction phase, the intersections of Georgstraße/Sylbeckestraße and Feldstraße will be rebuilt as roundabouts. Short-term closures of individual accesses cannot be completely avoided during ongoing work, but access to properties along the route will generally be maintained.
The sewer construction costs amount to around 2.5 million euros, financed from the wastewater fee revenue. An additional 4.2 million euros are budgeted for the road construction, and no street maintenance charges will be levied. New greenery will be added to enhance the street space, with 50 new street trees to be planted.
Notably, the renovation aims to make Lemgoer Straße more appealing and functional. This includes the installation of a new sewer system for separated wastewater streams, the widening of sidewalks, and the creation of more space for bicycle traffic.
For any questions regarding the project, Torben Gocke can be contacted at 05231 977 401. It is advisable to plan alternative routes during the construction period to ensure a smooth commute.
The press release for this project originates from the city portal, highlighting the city's commitment to infrastructure development and improvement. The renovation of Lemgoer Straße is a significant step towards modernising Detmold's infrastructure and creating a more sustainable and attractive city.
