Massive Fire at El Segundo Chevron Refinery Contains No Injuries
A massive fire broke out at the El Segundo Chevron Refinery in Los Angeles on Friday evening, local time. The blaze, visible from miles away, caused concern but did not impact nearby LAX airport operations.
The fire started around 9:35 pm and was quickly responded to by local firefighters and Chevron's own fire team. As of now, no injuries have been reported. Authorities are still investigating the cause of the accident.
The fire was contained within one area of the refinery, according to LA County Supervisor Holly Mitchell. She advised residents to stay indoors due to potential air quality issues, as warned by Nahal Mogharabi of the Air Quality Management District. Despite the concern, Mitchell confirmed that evacuation was not necessary.
El Segundo Mayor Chris Pimentel expressed concern for the safety of residents and confirmed the immediate response by Chevron and local firefighters.
