Metro Line in Bengaluru, known as Namma Metro, receives safety approval; reportedly set to launch on August 15.

The Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) has received the much-anticipated safety certification for the Namma Metro's Yellow Line, paving the way for its opening. Yashwanth Chavan, BMRCL's chief public relations officer, confirmed the news.

The safety certification follows an Independent Safety Assessment (ISA) clearance received in mid-July 2025. The final safety certification step before commercial operations can begin is the Commissioner of Metro Rail Safety (CMRS) inspection, which is expected shortly.

The Yellow Line, a 19.15-kilometre connection between RV Road in the south and Bommasandra, is now ready for a phased opening, likely before August 15, 2025. Initially, the line will operate with limited services using 3 trains, expecting about 25,000 passengers daily. Full operations and a larger fleet are planned for 2026.

The final procedures for opening after the ISA clearance involve several steps. These include calling for the CMRS inspection, completing all construction and interior works, running trial runs and testing with the available trainsets, and ensuring operational reliability. The BMRCL must also implement all recommendations and submit a report outlining their compliance to receive the final go-ahead to start carrying passengers.

The safety review, overseen by AM Chowdhary, examined every element of the line's readiness, including the power grid, tracks, signaling, curves, emergency response, fire prevention, passenger information displays, and amenities at each station. The review, which took place over three days from July 22, came with specific stipulations that must be addressed before commercial service can begin.

The safety certification was granted by the Commissioner of Metro Railway Safety (CMRS), Southern Circle. This timeline depends on the smooth completion of safety inspections and regulatory approvals without technical hurdles. The opening of the Yellow Line is a significant step towards improving public transportation in Bangalore.
