The British automotive brand MG Motor is set to launch an updated version of its popular electric hatchback, the MG4, in China around September 2025. The upcoming model boasts several interior and exterior upgrades, offering a more modern, tech-enhanced, and practical cabin experience.

One of the most notable changes is the cleaner and more minimalist interior design, featuring a refreshed layout for a better user experience. The gear selector has been relocated from the center floating console to a stalk behind the steering wheel, freeing up space in the center console for improved storage options.

A larger center touchscreen integrated with a user interface developed in collaboration with Chinese phone giant Oppo takes center stage. This system supports phone mirroring technology and integrates Oppo's in-car ecosystem, enabling smartphone-activated vehicle preparation, phone-car app integration, AI assistant interaction, and gesture control. Below the screen, there are four physical function buttons along with a hazard light button, facilitating easier access to essential controls.

Additional features include a wireless phone charger centrally located for easy access by both driver and front passenger, metallic physical buttons, and seats equipped with power adjustment, heating, and ventilation. The new MG4's steering wheel is a two-spoke multifunction design, similar to that of MG’s best-selling electric hatchback in Australia.

The exterior design of the new MG4 has also been updated, with the hatchback now measuring 4.4 metres in length, longer than its current version. The front lights of the upgraded MG4 have a narrower profile and integrate daytime running lights. The back of the car retains a conventional hatchback look with taillights reminiscent of the British Union Jack, reflecting MG's brand heritage.

The new MG4 is expected to offer more range due to its lighter weight, with the base variant weighing 1,485 kg. The base variant will also be powered by a 120 kW rear-mounted motor and a lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery.

While MG Motor Australia has not confirmed whether the new MG4 will be coming to Australia, the MG4's current version, launched in 2023, has already sold over 11,000 units as of the end of June 2025. If priced similarly to the current model, the new MG4 could start at $37,990 driveaway.

The new MG4 is expected to go on sale in China first, with international markets to follow afterward. If locally released, the new MG4 could be one of the company's best-sellers, given its impressive upgrades and competitive pricing.
