Ministry of Transport Seeks €20M for Key Infrastructure Projects
The Ministry of Transport has submitted a report seeking over €20 million in additional funds for the state budget in 2024 and 2025. The money is earmarked for ongoing projects, including Riga Central Railway Station and Riga Airport Station.
The Ministry has requested funds for Rail Baltica since summer, but has yet to receive approval. Nearly €1 million of the requested amount is a contribution to the RB Rail Fund, with Latvia having contributed only €900,000 so far this year. The expenditure related to RB Rail was known, and the request is being made from contingency funds as historically done.
The person responsible for the financing of the RB Rail project in Latvia is not explicitly named. However, Latvijas Dzelzceļa Linijas (EDzL), the company overseeing the construction of Rail Baltica in Latvia, is involved in the financing and payments. Government approval is required for budget allocations.
The Ministry of Transport has requested over €20 million in additional funds for 2024 and 2025. The money is needed to continue work on key infrastructure projects. Prime Minister Evika Siliņa has not yet commented on the situation.
