In a significant turn of events for the Mexican banking industry, Citibanamex, one of the country's major banks owned by Citigroup, has been put up for sale. This decision is part of Citigroup's plan to close commercial banking operations in Mexico.

Several high-profile Mexican investors have shown interest in acquiring Citibanamex's assets. Among them are Carlos Slim de Inbursa, Carlos Hank González de Banorte, José Javier Garza Calderón, and a group of investors from the northern state of Nuevo León. Ricardo Salinas Pliego, owner of Banco Azteca, has also expressed his interest.

The exit of Citigroup from Banamex could potentially open up opportunities for these Mexican magnates and investors. Reports suggest that offers for Banamex are between 13 and 14 billion dollars.

President Andrés Manuel López Obrador has requested the return of Banamex to Mexico after Citigroup announced its exit from retail banking operations in the country. The president celebrated the interest of Ricardo Salinas Pliego in buying Citibanamex. However, he did not specify if he has any personal preferences for the potential buyer.

Interestingly, Alfonso Jiménez Pérez, the director of Isatek, a cryptocurrency mining company based in Monterrey, has also expressed his interest in acquiring Banamex. Jiménez Pérez has offered $16 billion in cryptocurrency Amero to buy Banamex. However, it's important to note that there has been no credible or official announcement or report about Isatek proceeding with this acquisition using the cryptocurrency Amero.

Isatek's offer includes branches, Afore (Mexican savings funds), insurance company, debit and credit card business, among others. The company aims to create the first hybrid bank in Mexico, aligning with the Bank of Mexico's plans to create its own cryptocurrency and the global trend of hybrid banking.

The potential sale of Citibanamex's assets could significantly impact the Mexican banking industry. As the situation develops, it is crucial to verify any claims or rumors against official statements from Banamex, Citigroup, Isatek, or reputable financial news outlets.

In related news, Citigroup, which bought Banamex in 2001, has announced it will leave consumer and corporate banking from CitiBanamex as part of a new strategic vision. The Citi firm has not specified the timeline for this transition.

As always, stay tuned for more updates on this developing story.
