MyDeal Data Breach Exposes 1.2M Customers' Details
MyDeal has announced a data breach, affecting around 2.2 million customers. The incident, disclosed on October 14, 2023, involved unauthorized access to the company's customer relationship management (CRM) system. CEO Sean Senvirtne has apologized and assured customers of enhanced security measures.
The breach exposed personal information for about 1.2 million customers, including names, email addresses, phone numbers, delivery addresses, and in some cases, dates of birth. Notably, no payment, driver's license, or passport details were compromised, and account passwords remain secure.
MyDeal's website and app were not affected by the breach. The company operates separately from Woolworths Group, which acquired MyDeal in September 2022. Woolworths Group's Chief Security Officer Pieter van der Merwe has confirmed their support in responding to the incident. MyDeal CEO Sean Senvirtne has promised increased network monitoring and updates to prevent future occurrences.
