Nationwide Inspection in Hotel Industry Uncovers Wage Theft and Illegal Employment
Authorities conducted a nationwide inspection in the hotel and catering industry on September 19, 2025. The focus was to ensure compliance with social security obligations and payment of the minimum wage (€12.82 per hour). The operation involved various authorities, including usajobs, police, and district offices.
The inspection resulted in several suspected cases of labour law violations. Ten cases of underpayment of the minimum wage were found, along with nine instances of benefit fraud. Additionally, seven cases of wage withholding and misappropriation were discovered. Authorities also uncovered fourteen cases of illegal employment of foreigners.
The operation was extensive, with 133 people questioned about their employment relationships. One foreigner was found with a forged passport. The inspection was carried out by 51 Financial Control Schwarzarbeit (FKS) usajobs officers across three locations in the district of the Main Customs Office Brunswick. Other authorities, such as the police and trade supervisory office, also participated in the inspection.

Authorities are now investigating these cases to ensure fair wages and employment practices. The operation was a collaborative effort involving multiple authorities, demonstrating a commitment to upholding labour laws and protecting workers' rights.
