NEC to Host NE Logistics Conclave 2022 for Northeastern States' Infrastructure Boost
The North Eastern Council (NEC) is set to host the NE Logistics Conclave 2022 in Guwahati, Assam on December 6. This event aims to accelerate logistics development in the northeastern states, which contributed 2.8% to India's GDP in 2019-2020. The conclave seeks to address key challenges and opportunities in the region's logistics infrastructure.
The northeast, home to over 45 million people (3.76% of India's total population), has seen significant investment in its development. The Central Government has sanctioned over INR 26,000 crore for the region's growth through various schemes till August 2021. Despite this, only two states have robust logistics policies, leaving six states without such plans.
To improve connectivity, two multimodal logistics parks are under development in Tripura and Assam. These parks will serve as logistics capitals, complementing the existing infrastructure like 17 air cargo terminals and over 2.5 lakhs MT cold storage capacity. The PM Gati Shakti - National Master Plan for Multi-modal Connectivity, launched in October 2021, aims to integrate planning and implementation of such projects.
The NE Logistics Conclave 2022 will delve into topics such as bridging first and last-mile gaps in supply chains, fostering a balanced logistics ecosystem, and strengthening logistics human capital. Professionals, thinkers, and industry experts can register through the official NEC website or event-specific portals.
With the northeast states' potential to boost GDP growth through improved logistics infrastructure, the NE Logistics Conclave 2022 is a crucial platform for stakeholders to discuss and strategize the region's logistics development. The conclave's outcomes are expected to significantly impact the northeastern states' economic prospects.
