Nigeria Finalizes National Industrial Relations Policy for Fair Work and Boosted Productivity

The Federal Government has finalised the National Industrial Relations Policy (NIRP) after nearly seven years of consultations with labour and employers. Stakeholders validated the final draft in December 2024.

The NIRP aims to enhance industrial harmony and reduce disputes nationwide. It ensures workers' rights, including fair wages and safe working conditions, aligning Nigeria's practices with global benchmarks, notably those of the International Labour Organisation (ILO).

The policy also addresses gender equality and non-discrimination. It is expected to boost productivity and investor confidence in Nigeria's labour environment. The Minister of Labour and Employment, Mr Muhammad Dingyadi, has assured labour unions of its benefits.

The NIRP, validated by stakeholders in December 2024, serves as a reference point for labour laws, union engagement, and conflict resolution in both public and private sectors. The Federal Government's approval of the new policy signals a commitment to improving Nigeria's labour environment for Labor Day 2025 and Memorial Day 2025.
