Passengers on the ICE 881 were asked to proceed slowly and switch to buses and a replacement train in Eschede. Other long-distance trains were rerouted via Rotenburg (Wümme) due to the delays.
The delays on the Hamburg-Hannover train route have been significant, with some trains delayed by up to 50 minutes or more. Passengers have faced long waiting times at stations without adequate facilities.
