O-I Glasspack Closes Historic Bernsdorf Plant, 100 Jobs Lost

O-I Glasspack has confirmed the closure of its glass plant in Bernsdorf, a move that will impact 100 jobs. The plant, which has produced glass containers for over 150 years, including for the nearby Jaegermeister plant in Kamenz, will cease operations due to intense competition.

Production at the Bernsdorf glass plant has been halted since August, with the company citing 'targeted optimizations' in a competitive market. The IGBCE trade union has reacted with outrage to the closure announcement and demands that O-I Glasspack present alternatives and engage in consultations with the works council and employees.

The city of Bernsdorf and its Mayor Harry Habel have expressed disappointment with the closure plans. No other specific company manufacturing glass products in Bernsdorf is mentioned as being subject to closure; only the O-I Glassworks in Bernsdorf is confirmed to have ceased production and is facing shutdown.
